Shocking Report on Lake Huron/Georgian Bay Water Levels

http://www.tinycottager.org/environment/Ellis-BairdRpt.pdf The web site contains an executive summary(4 pages) of the Baird Report that deals with the dropping water levels on Lake Huron/Georgian Bay. The study and report was commissioned by the Georgian Bay Association at a cost of $240,000. Baird Associates Coastal Engineers Ltd. concluded that the extremely low water is a result of major erosion at the St. Clair River (Blue Water Bridge) that has resulted in the depth of the river being twice what it was dredged to (27') in the 1960's. "The increased water flow feeds on itself, scouring sections of the river ever deeper and increasing the outflow from Lake Huron/Michigan far beyond what had been predicted. Baird puts this loss at 845 million gallons per day." The Baird Report has been presented to the International Joint Committee and the Chair Dennis Schornack stated that there is no doubt that the Lake Huron outflow is a serious problem and urged both governments to find a solution. The water of Lake Huron/Georgian Bay is a precious commodity and we should do everything in our power to preserve it. This is a man made problem and it requires a man made solution. Lake Huron/Michigan are the only great lakes that are not controlled and it is time for a water control mechanism to be built on the St. Clair River. I urge you to lobby the Minister of the Environment and Minister of Foreign Affairs so that proper funding is allocated to find a solution to this very serious problem. Thanks for your assistance.
