BASEBALL
Morning Baseball: Morning baseball is for all those Bruce Beach kids (12 & under) who enjoy baseball and want to make new friends or catch up with old friends. The baseball facilities at the North end have guaranteed a fun time for all. Everyone goes home a winner!
The activity takes place from 9.30 am to 10.30 am Monday through Friday every week during July and August. The ball diamond is located next to the Cameron Grove tennis courts behind Cottage 125. To join in and play, come any day of the week before 9.30 am and bring a glove.
There is a real need for weekly volunteers as our facilities have attracted a greater turnout of children. What would really be great is if we can have new volunteers for coaching who have never coached before – it’s a great way to have your children meet other children on the beach and establish relationships with their parents.
Since Dave Tiernan has taken over as President of the Bruce Beach Cottagers Association, he is very interested in handing over the coordinator’s role for morning baseball to a willing volunteer in time for this year. Dave will be "retiring" as coordinator of youth softball effective April 1, 2011. If you are interested in becoming coordinator for youth softball, please contact Dave at tiernanfam@aol.com (Home), 248-347-0681 (Home), dave.tiernan@riverbed.com, (Work), or 248-330-4151 (Cell).
Wednesday Evening Baseball: Wednesday night baseball is for youth ages 12 and up from 7 to 8 pm at the Huff-Clark Baseball Diamond off Ball Park Lane (behind 51 Ball Park Lane). This is a great opportunity for teenagers to meet and get to know other fellow beachers. This year parent volunteers are needed to continue the success of this recreational activity. Please sign up at the ball diamond on Wednesday nights for your turn. Thanks to all who support this fun activity!
The North-South Baseball Classic: Each Sunday in July and August, at about 9:00 am, baseball players 16 and over arrive at the Huff-Clark Baseball Diamond. Lines are chalked, teams picked and the game(s) continue until time runs out. Games are unofficial, with one exception: The Bruce Beach North-South Baseball Classic, which takes place at 10:00 am on the Sunday of the August long weekend. After a warm-up game at 9:00 am, the South and North ends square off for an official match at 10:00 am. The 8th Concession Road divides the beach into North and South. Good luck and good neighbours have determined that North and South each win about half the time – winning the Apsey Cup for the year. We are looking forward to July 31 in 2011. Please come to play or watch.
THANKSGIVING DAY HOCKEY CLASSIC 2010
BRUCE BEACH vs PORT ALBERT
Although Bruce Beach was down 4-1 at 'halftime', we closed the gap to make it 4-3 but couldn't get the equalizer. (Dave Brisbin, Captain of the Bruce Beach team, personally blames Taylor Henderson and Connor Sedgewick, who were 'loaned' to Port Albert as they were short on players, so our loss was due to that pair of 'turncoats'!) This is an annual challenge that draws a record crowd of at least thirty Bruce Beachers to the Lucknow Arena every Thanksgiving Sunday, only a slightly smaller crowd than the Michigan-Michigan State game the day before.
BRUCE BEACH TENNIS CLUB
This Tennis Club is a private club situated behind the Bruce Beach Golf Club House. It is for the use of Bruce Beach Cottagers, renters and their guests. We need your help and support to ensure that “members only” use our courts.

GAMES DAY
A great time was had by all participants, leaders and spectators at Games Day 2010! Tout’s Grove was the scene of happy toddlers enjoying fun activities led by Julia McCuaig, while enthusiastic older children and youth competed in silly team relay races. There was lots of laughter and cheers as the participants tried to: navigate a beach theme obstacle course, bob for apples while perched upon a surf board, run with arms linked back to back, carrying an oversized balloon, wrap their leaders in toilet paper & then paint them in their team colours. Also enjoyed by the crowd was the ever-popular water balloon toss & a beehive pinnate candy scramble. The organizers, JJ Jasperson and Carmen Riekenbrauck, would like to thank Emily Stief for all her sage wisdom and help, Julia McCuaig and all the team leaders for their invaluable efforts with team organization on Games Day; from creating their own team logos to filling, tirelessly, many water balloons. They did a fantastic job making sure that all participants had a terrific time! We would like to encourage all of our experienced team leaders to come out again this coming summer along with any new and enthusiastic recruits!
Come join in the fun at Games Day 2011 taking place on Saturday, August 6th, 9:30 a.m. at Tout’s Grove. There are games and activities for toddlers (1- 4 yrs.) and fun team relays and activities for older children (5 -12 yrs.). Anyone interested in contributing prizes or helping out should contact Judy Jasperson at (519) 395-0392 or (416) 452-7713 (cell).

BRUCE BEACH BBQ
On Saturday July 31, 2010, hundreds of cottagers gathered together at the Bruce Beach Golf Course for the annual Bruce Beach BBQ. The event was once again a huge success – we celebrated great company, truly excellent food, wonderful weather and great music, supplied by our DJ. Planning for the 2011 BBQ is well under way. We have incorporated a number of excellent ideas provided by your survey responses. This year there will be more total Community focus and a greater number of activities and recognition opportunities for the kids. We are also, based on popular demand, looking at how tables and chairs can be provided for everyone.
Please try and get your ticket orders in early. This can help us immensely in providing the best ever experience for you. We recognize that sometimes exact numbers are tough to pin down but order as many as you can at least three weeks prior to the event. As an incentive to do this ticket prices for orders placed prior to the 10th of July will remain at $16 and $8 respectively for adults and children. Purchases made after that date will be $18 and $9.
We hope you will talk the event up with your friends, neighbours and relatives. Renters/owners, “Beachers” of all ages, let’s make this the most enjoyable year ever.
Looking forward to seeing you all at this year’s BBQ – mark the date on your calendar – Saturday July 30, 2011! Your 2011 BBQ ticket order form is among the inserts.
