Have you or someone at your cottage gotten Swimmer's itch at Bruce Beach?

We have had our grand children at the cottage since July 30th and until August 7th. They spent a lot of time in the lake and no one has had a problem.

Since I was a kid on Bruce Beach there was talk of swimmer's itch. I've never had it and nobody has ever reported it to me. I've been told over the years that the soapy-looking stuff near shore is what causes it.
There is no doubt in my mind that swimming in the lake anytime but especially after a rain is the cause of sore throat, redeye and earaches. It's agricultural runoff that bursts from the gullies after they swell. Showering right after a swim is recommended.
I ran a hose from my outdoor tap under the deck to a valved showerhead 2 years ago, no soap please. The sun keeps water in the length of hose nice and warm, good choice for washing sand off your feet too, the foot basins are maybe not the best things for dogs to be drinking out of. In the fall I disconnect both ends of the hose and reconnect in the spring, no problem lying there for the winter other than a bit of sand to wash out. Roger Crysler #42
