A New Century for the Bruce Beach Golf Club
CAPITAL FUND DRIVE
At the 2007 annual meeting of the Bruce Beach Golf Club a request was made and accepted, to mount a capital campaign to raise funds to make improvements to the clubhouse and to the golf course. This motion was carried forth to the McCosh Grove annual meeting where it again was accepted. This past year being the one-hundredth year anniversary of the founding of the golf course, it seemed a suitable time to do this. It was the request of Hooks and Susan Yates Johnston, on behalf of the larger Yates family to spearhead this campaign. It was Charles and Fred Yates who were instrumental in the construction of the clubhouse and the rejuvenation of the golf course. According to Bruce Beach history, the clubhouse was built around 1939, for an estimated amount of $500 that was donated by Bruce Beachers. The cost of the clubhouse renovation has been estimated to be about $90,000. There will be additional costs for the improvement of the golf course.
Over the course of the next months, you will be hearing from us! It would be much in the spirit of our beach, if family members would join together and consider a significant gift for this campaign. Any sort of fund raising activities will also be welcomed. We would welcome any volunteers in this effort and encourage beachers to initiate some fun fund raising activities. Please send us your suggestions. (syjohnston@comcast.net)
We all have happy memories of a variety of gatherings in and around the clubhouse. The golf course has been a place where golfers of all ages and abilities have enjoyed the experience of playing this unique nine-hole course. This is an opportunity for the whole of Bruce Beach to come together to improve an important landmark and gathering place for us all.
