 Stepping Back

In our last issue, we introduced the term "biodiversity", the diversity of living things in our environment. In this issue we'll discuss biodiversity from a broad lake-wide perspective, and how plant life in particular contributes to the health of our lake environment.

 When we observe environmental problems showing up at the beach, like excessive algae washing ashore, or posted beaches due to high bacteria, often these problems originate beyond the local beach area. Some of these issues are compounded by the state of our watersheds.  The Lake Huron watershed covers roughly 134,000 square kilometres.  Since European settlement of the Lake Huron region, the watershed has undergone significant changes, particularly south of the Bruce Peninsula, and along southern Georgian Bay. Forest cover, for instance, has been reduced from  an estimated pre-settlement extent of 90% to around 18%, and as low as 6% in some of Huron's river systems.

World's Best Sunsets - Golf Club fundraiser in time for Christmas

Somehow, some good should come from the hours I spend photographing what National Geographic called World's Best Sunsets, back in the 1980's. My deal is non profit. You choose either 4 (minimum) dry-mounted plaques 8 x 10" or 11 x 14", or 2 (minimum) matted and framed prints, 11 x 14".

Pricing will depend on print quality desired. Funds payable to Roger Crysler to cover the costs will be accompanied by a like cheque from you payable to Bruce Beach Golf Club improvement campaign, which I will forward.

Bruce Beach Golf Course Renovation Report

Golf ClubsGolf ClubsSECOND GOLF FUNDRAISER NETS $5720 FOR GOLF COURSE RESTORATION

The second golf outing fund raiser was a smashing success (the golf was rained out but the after golf drinking was not) netting the restoration project $5720 led by a $2000 contribution from the Pottier family (Cottage 152) , a $1000 gift from Bill and Jean Lichtenberg (Cottage 171-2) and a $500 check from the Sled family (Cottage 159). The Pottiers have raised their funds through the sale of tee shirts , polo shirts and Bruce Beach paraphernalia. There is plenty of merchandise in stock and the proceeds go to the restoration project so contact any member of the Pottier family for details. … continue reading »

Township needs grant to complete trails plan

Huron-Kinloss has applied for a Healthy Communities Fund grant to complete its plan to link the walking and biking trails through Ripley, Lucknow, Point Clark and the lakeshore.
