The other evening I got a robo-call. It was an automated poll. The recorded voice told me to press “1” if I approved of wind turbines, and “2” if I disapproved. I pressed “2” – hard. So have a lot of other people in Ontario.

Across the countryside outside Toronto, wind turbines are spreading like a plague. They are being built over the strenuous objections of folks who live in rural towns, whose rights have been stomped on by the province. They’re chewing up birds. Worst of all, they’re chewing up billions of taxpayer dollars in the name of a green dream that’s nothing but a fantasy.

Huron-Kinloss council has endorsed a motion by Arran-Elderslie calling on Ontario premier Dalton McGuinty to invoke an immediate one-year moratorium on industrial wind turbines in the province.

The motion also calls for yearly extensions, as required, until the concerns about the damaging and devastating repercussions in Ontario communities, caused by turbines, are properly studied and addressed.

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson will be using her private member's ballot spot March 8 to debate an important motion she tabled Dec. 8, 2011.

She tabled a motion calling for a moratorium on all further industrial wind turbine development until a third-party health and environmental study has been completed. Thompson has heard from many constituents in Huron-Bruce who have been concerned about the environmental, physical, social, and economic health of their communities, and believes third-party studies should be completed.

(Reuters) - When the Netherlands built its first sea-based wind turbines in 2006, they were seen as symbols of a greener future.

By JANICE MIDDLETON, FOR THE SUN TIMES

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty is spinning the deception of his political career and he's betting the beautiful and historic shorelines of Great Lakes Ontario, Huron, Superior and Erie that voters won't catch onto the truth about wind and solar power until after election day on Oct. 6.
