Zoning

Sub-Division News

Despite objections from neighbouring property owners, Huron-Kinloss council has given the nod to an eight-unit subdivision at 726 Lake Range Dr., with conditions.

The proposal, by John and Jane Elliott, came forward at the planning advisory committee April 27 when Bruce County planner Heather James recommended the application be deferred until more information is received and reviewed, and concerns addressed.

The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) wants further information about a revised lot grading plan to address the adjusted setback from the bluff and significant woodlands, and a preliminary stormwater management plan.

Numerous letters of objection have been received from neighbouring property owners, said James, with concerns about stormwater management, erosion, and tree-cutting on the proposed lots, especially on the bluff. …continue reading »

Huron-Kinloss Council Meetings report

A. We met on Sat. April 18 with Hugh Nichol, Superintendent of Roads, Mayor Twolan and the Councillors during their yearly "tour of roads." After viewing the road and the pictures, they agreed that the drainage problems that cause flooding, potholes and muddy ie dangerous road conditions should be repaired.
Mayor Twolan stated that Bruce Beach Road is "now on the radar."

B. A delegation from the Bruce Beach Road neighbourhood attended the meeting at the Council Chambers on Monday evening to present the concerns re: the proposed subdivision at the top of the hill on Lake Range Drive, on the land adjacent to the former 'Rockys' store. The majority of the concerns were about the lack of an effective water management plan and the lack of plans to preserve the trees on the hill to prevent erosion and flooding on the properties and road at the bottom of the hill.

Saugeen Conservation Authority sent a letter to Heather James, Planner, County of Bruce. Heather presented the letter that stated the Saugeen Conservation Authority recommended deferring a decision about the subdivision because they did not have sufficient time to prepare for the meeting.

Heather James, Planner, also recommended that the township defer a decision due to outstanding concerns re: water management and also because of the many letters she received from the public. The letters expressed concerns about storm water, tree retention, water management, increased traffic on the hill...

The Engineers recommended that the Council pass the plan for the subdivision.

Mayor Twolan conducted a vote.

Proposed subdivision near Bruce Beach

We have just received the enclosed letter concerning a proposed subdivision for the land beside "Rocky's" store.

In the letter, there is no statement regarding stormwater management.
We are concerned that the owners may cut down the trees on the hill that could result in more flooding on the Bruce Beach Road.… continue reading »

Proposed Comprehensive Zoning By-Law

The Proposed Comprehensive Official Plan and Zoning By-Law are on the website now.  I apologize for how long it took.  The official plan was there yesterday but it is the proposed zoning by-law that people will be most interested in.

You can find the information at www.huronkinloss.com - click on What's New and it is under the sections that start with "Proposed".  The maps are there as well all entitled Map X etc.  When our webmaster is back from holidays we will get everything on in a neater format.  I felt it was more important to have the information available rather than have it neat and a bit late!   Feel free to contact the office if you have any questions.

Thanks for your patience!

Comprehensive Zoning By-Law for the Lakeshore Update

We have just finalized a date and time for the Comprehensive Zoning By-Law for the Lakeshore "Open House".  It is going to be at the Point Clark Community Centre from 2pm to 5 pm on August 25th.  Bill Green from the GSP Group will be in attendance to answer any questions people might have.  I think Matt Farrell will be there for at least part of that time as well.  (Maybe me too depending on if they need me.)… continue reading »

Bruce Beach News - Spring Update

RE: Spring Update
DATE: May 10, 2008

As we approach the long weekend, I would like to share recent information that affects BBCA members as they return to the cottage.

There was only one break-in (that we know about) over the winter but there was some confusion about the cottage number on the part of the OPP when they tried to contact the owner. It would be very helpful for security reasons if every owner had their cottage number mounted in large numbers and in a prominent place on both the front (lakeside) and back of their cottage, deck or porch.… continue reading »

Re: Winter Update
Date: Dec 15, 2007

Last Sunday and Monday I spent time at the beach. The lake is frozen about 50 feet out, and the beach is covered by a blanket of clean, white snow. The sun was shining and footprints from various animals were observed along the beach.

On Monday evening, Dec 10th I attended the "special" meeting about the beach held by Huron Kinloss Township Council The meeting was attended by about 50 citizens (mainly from Pt Clark and Lurgan Beach), and included Don Cass and myself from BBCA.… continue reading »

Moon over Bruce Beach

TO: BBCA Members
From: Barry McPherson
Subject: Fall Update
Date: October 29, 2007

Attached to this message is a photo of the moon setting over the lake on October 25. The lake level has dropped almost another foot since Thanksgiving, and the beach is as wide as I have seen it in recent years. As of this weekend, the algae had disappeared-- at least at the north end between the 8th and 10th, but I did not have time to walk any further south.… continue reading »
