Bruce Beach History -- The McCosh Family

Donald Whyte’s 1986 A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada before Confederation, records the McCoshes coming from Ayrshire, Scotland where William McCosh married Elizabeth Strathom who gave birth to Alexander, on August 29, 1806.  Alexander’s first wife was Elizabeth Gemmel and they had five children. Their first was William and their second was our Robert W. McCosh Sr., born Feb. 19, 1832. Their last child, Alexander “Sandy” G. was born in 1839 and that same year, his mother died. Still in Scotland, Alexander Sr. remarried Margaret Brown. Alexander Sr. was a Justice of the Peace in Scotland and William was a miner.

Bruce Beachers,

We have had a wonderful summer of junior baseball and I would like to thank all the volunteers who have made this a great season.

We are still in need of volunteers for the last week of the summer - August 29 to September 2.

I know that the kids do not want the summer to end early - lets make sure the summer junior baseball season does not end early.

The activity takes place from 9.30 am to 10.30 am Monday through Friday. The ball diamond is located next to the Cameron Grove tennis courts behind Cottage 127. To join in and play, come any day of the week before 9.30 am and bring a glove.

To volunteer to coach for the last week, contact me at one of the following numbers/emails:

Bruce Beachers,

Tomorrow marks the opening day of the 22nd season of Bruce Beach Youth Softball for 12 year olds and under. I want to thank all the volunteers who have volunteered to help with baseball for the coming season (copied on the attached Youth Softball Schedule).

The activity takes place from 9.30 am to 10.30 am Monday through Friday every week during July and August. The ball diamond is located next to the Cameron Grove tennis courts behind Cottage 125. To join in and play, come any day of the week before 9.30 am and bring a glove.

With the season about to start, we still need volunteers for the two below weeks in August.
August 15 - August 19
August 29 - September 2
To volunteer for coaching for the two weeks above or to assist the current volunteers on the attached schedule, contact me at tiernanfam@aol.com at one of the following numbers:

Also in June, 2011, the SBBCA tennis court will be repaved.

I have just been informed that a controlled cutting of Blandford Woods, the managed forest owned jointly by the members of the South Bruce Beach Cottage Association, will begin mid-day tomorrow, Thursday. The harvesting of 25-30% of the pine plantation will be a short term inconvenience for those used to enjoying the walking trails of this forest preserve. After some 35 years of growth, Blandford Woods is in need of some management practices for the long term health and sustainability of this naturalized area.

This controlled cutting will be conducted by the professionals from The Moggie Valley Timber Company under the supervision of the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority. Please consider the trails, forest and tennis court in this area to be off limits for the next 2-3 days as it will involve heavy equipment and dangerous conditions for all but the experts.

For all those that are curious or in need of some entertainment, the procedure should be best viewed from well back on the road.

To Bruce Beachers,

When I first took on organizing Youth Baseball for Bruce Beach for the 12 years old and under I had two young children. Well, those two young children are now 23 and 19 years old and it is time I turn over the reins of Youth Baseball to a new coordinator. I will be assisting getting in getting Youth Baseball started this summer but this will be my last task with baseball. I would like to turn over Youth Baseball to a new coordinator(s) in the June time frame. If you are interested in coordinating Youth Baseball please send me an email at tiernanfam@aol.com and I will help you get started.

This is the twenty second year morning baseball is available for all those Bruce Beach kids (12 & under) who enjoy baseball and want to make new friends or catch up with old friends. The baseball facilities at the North end have guaranteed a fun time for all.
