After years of arguments over where the disease-carrying bacteria come from -- humans, livestock or wildlife -- DNA "fingerprinting" says human sewage is only a tiny fraction of the problem.
In samples from Lake Huron and the creeks and rivers feeding it, cattle and pig manure accounted for 59 to 62 per cent of the E. coli.…continue reading »

Lake Huron e-news - October 2008
Submitted by beachcomber on October 1, 2008 - 11:38pmAnd now for something completely different...
Climate change projections for Lake Huron suggest that we will see
changes in water levels, temperature and precipitation in the coming
decades, making our work or leisure experience something different than
what we've been used to.
Recent
studies by federal and provincial agencies indicate that
municipalities, business and property owners will have to make
adaptations to cope with these changes. Some of the key findings are
listed below.With higher air temperatures:
- longer growing season;
- longer summer recreational season
- increased demand for beaches and parks;
- increased number of hot days could result in conditions that support higher occurrences of poor air quality days. Some of the poorest air quality in Ontario occurs along the eastern shores of Lake Huron, as a result of lake-land breeze circulations;
- increased threat of invasive plant species damaging our valued ecosystems.

RE: Spring Update
DATE: May 10, 2008
As we approach the long weekend, I would like to share recent information that affects BBCA members as they return to the cottage.
There was only one break-in (that we know about) over the winter but there was some confusion about the cottage number on the part of the OPP when they tried to contact the owner. It would be very helpful for security reasons if every owner had their cottage number mounted in large numbers and in a prominent place on both the front (lakeside) and back of their cottage, deck or porch.… continue reading »

WRAFT january Report
Submitted by beachcomber on January 17, 2008 - 5:25pm THE YEAR AHEAD: MORE WORK TO DO
This past November WRAFT held its Annual Meeting and received a strong endorsement from its member associations to continue the battle for property tax reform-for which we are grateful. 2008 will be a critical year in that struggle. Without serious reform this year, 2008 assessments will bring massive tax hikes for hundreds of thousands of Ontario home and cottage owners. … continue reading »
President's Report
Submitted by beachcomber on December 15, 2007 - 1:07pm To: BBCA Members Last Sunday and Monday I spent time at the beach. The lake is frozen about 50 feet out, and the beach is covered by a blanket of clean, white snow. The sun was shining and footprints from various animals were observed along the beach. On Monday evening, Dec 10th I attended the "special" meeting about the beach held by Huron Kinloss Township Council The meeting was attended by about 50 citizens (mainly from Pt Clark and Lurgan Beach), and included Don Cass and myself from BBCA.… continue reading »
