Neighbourhood Watch at Bruce Beach
Submitted by Ross Klopp on October 19, 2009 - 3:17pmNeighbourhood Watch
The following e-mail message spells out the importance of having an eye out for our neighbour's property when at the beach.
-----
We received news yesterday that our cottage at 176 Bruce Beach had been broken into probably on Friday night Oct 16th. The intruders came in through a window in our sun room on the second floor although the cottage was apparently locked up tightly. Tools that were being used by our neighbor to do some work on the cottage were stolen but we don't yet know if anything else was taken because we are living in the Netherlands and can't get to the cottage to see. The police have been in to investigate and I understand from them that the cottage next to us was also broken into.
We wanted to let you know so that you will be aware and perhaps can alert others to the fact so that they will be on the lookout for anything going on along the beach. The investigating officer is Karen Green and the number to call is 519 396 3341 if anyone has a similar problem or wants to report anything. I believe there is a cottage watch group that keeps an eye on our cottages over the winter and if so it would be a good idea to let them know that there have been at least two break-ins so far this season - not a good start to the winter!
Best regards,
Heather and Jim Wall

THERE ARE PLANT THIEVES OPERATING AT BRUCE BEACH
Submitted by beachcomber on June 20, 2008 - 1:28pm
Reports have circulated that several cottagers have lost many, and sometimes all, of the spring planting they have done over the last short while. The residents of Gordon Street report that thieves have stripped their property of plants, including planters and hangers from both the road side and the beach side of the cottages. They have also dug up rose bushes and moved huge porcelain planters from lakeside decks. The plant thieves have stolen such a magnitude of stock that they must be selling some of the loot so be observant as you drive past yard sales and markets. Please be a good neighbour and report any sightings of plant thieves to the O.P.P. and also the township by-law officer as well as your neighbours. Trees, stumps and logs on the Beach
Submitted by beachcomber on June 17, 2008 - 2:17pm
Last week the Township moved the numerous stumps, logs and trees from the sandy beach area and/or the water up to the grass line all along the Huron Kinloss shoreline from Boiler Beach to the Pine River.
I contacted the Township today and was informed that the Township has left these logs piled, as is, for the next few weeks so they can dry out before they remove them. They also left the logs for a few weeks so that everyone has an opportunity to cut and use the wood if they wish for bonfires. If you want the logs, cut them up and pile them in an area in front of your cottage. If they are not removed or cut up, the Township will remove them and haul them away early in July.
Sincerely,
Barry McPherson
