Bruce Beach News
Just a short note to bring your attention to a concern I have with the current state of the Bruce Beach Municipal Drain project. My concern is with the quality of the water that is going into the Lake and I've included some photos.

The Little Book Library in Cameron Grove no longer has any children’s books(about ages 7-14). Apparently there has been more “taking” than “leaving”, which is a good sign that reading is taking place at Bruce Beach. If anyone along the beach has a few children’s books(for boys and girls) that their children or grandchildren no longer want, please deposit them in the Library as you head to town or attend Junior baseball games.
Aerial and ground surveys are underway in several locations across northern Ontario as the Nuclear Waste Management Organization moves through its current set of investigations of 18 areas mapped out over the last year by the NWMO as "potentially suitable" for a deep geological repository for high level nuclear waste. As of January 2015, over 300,000 hectares had been "withdrawn" from mineral exploration or other changes to land tenure "while the Nuclear Waste Management Organization conducts preliminary field assessment activities".
They’re catching on, mini lending libraries have been announced in Cameron Grove, Tout’s Grove, and now, Gordon Street. A great idea and those instrumental in installing them are to be congratulated.
We are still looking for more volunteers for Junior Baseball. Summer is HERE and there are many weeks that still require a volunteer to help out.
The weeks we require volunteers are:
July 13 to 17
July 20 to 24
August 17 to 21
August 24 to 28
August 31 to Sept 3 (extra week this year)
As you can see we have quite a few weeks yet to cover. I have been contacted by folks who were not sure when they would be at the Beach for their holidays but if you can commit to helping out for a week that would be great.
The Bruce Beach Golf Club is well underway for 2015. A group of 12
volunteers under the direction of Brian MacEachern and David Wilson have
built a new shed near the 3rd tee to house the course maintenance equipment
and this replaces the old green shed which had a dirt floor and was barely
standing. We would like to thank all the volunteers for their time and
effort in constructing this fine addition to the Golf Club.
Created, constructed and stocked by Bob Cunningham (109) and Barry McPherson(122), the FIRST Bruce Beach Library opens this weekend. Another “first” for the North! Will “Lower” or “Middle” Bruce Beach follow suit?
Modelled on the Little Free Library program found in many neighbourhoods in Canada and the United States (see, www.littlefreelibrary.org), this Library is located beside the tennis courts at Cameron Grove so that it is accessible to our Junior Baseball players and their fans.
The European Renewable Energy Foundation, a Green body supportive of all forms of renewable energy, has carried out research at Edinburgh University involving a look at years of wind farm performance data from the UK and Denmark. Their conclusion is this:
“Put bluntly, wind turbines onshore and offshore still cost too much and wear out far too quickly to offer the developing world a realistic alternative to coal.” And these guys are Green renewable energy proponents!...
We are still looking for more volunteers for Junior Baseball. Summer is fast approaching and there are many weeks that still require a volunteer to help out. Please contact me at the phone numbers or emails listed below.
First day is on Monday June 29th and we still need somebody for the first week.
They’re steamed by a plan to bury nuclear waste in their big backyards — but mayors governing U.S. and Canadian communities hope this week they can also help fire up action against the hot-weather issue of Great Lakes toxic slime.

FOR well over forty years the Summer Resort known as Bruce Beach on Lake Huron’s friendly shore has been the holiday rendezvous for health-seekers, pleasure-seekers and tor those who were just tired. From a very modest beginning the popularity and the population have grown by leaps and bounds. The need of having some sort of historical souvenir which would preserve the happy annals of the Beach had been keenly felt for a long time. It was not, however, until the year 1915 that the meeting of this need took concrete form.
Shortly after the Bruce Beach Historical Society was formed in the Fall of 1981, I was having lunch with a friend. When asked why I had given up curling that year, one of the two or three reasons I mentioned was my interest in publishing history of Bruce Beach, where my family had been spending their summers for more than sixty years. "How fortunate you are to have such roots", replied my friend.
