Patricia "Patty" Ruth Henderson - April 19, 1958- December 20, 2015

On the morning of Sunday December 20th, peacefully in the embrace of her loving family at home, our angel Patty moved on to heaven. She was the dear wife of W.A. ’Sandy’, and the dear mother of Emma, Kate, Graeme and Taylor. She leaves her mother, Margaret Sedgewick, siblings Barb Strain (Bill), Bob Sedgewick (Lynn), Jennifer Sedgewick (Walter), and John Sedgewick (Maureen). She was a sister-in-law to Rev. John Henderson (Dorothy), Dr. Margaret Henderson, and Dr. Clara Henderson. She also leaves her Aunt, Lil Anthony, several nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Sedgewick, Fraser, Wilson and Henderson clans. She was predeceased by her father, Robert M. Sedgewick QC, sister Bev Sedgewick, father-in-law Rev. W.A. Henderson, mother-in-law Margaret ‘Peggy’ Henderson, and several aunts and uncles.

Patty graduated from Queen’s University, BScN 1980, and had an outstanding career working at Toronto General, Sick Kids, and Markham Stouffville Hospitals. Her special gift and passion was caring for newborns in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as well as supporting the needs of their parents. She also made many dear friends with colleagues with whom she worked, especially over the several years she spent at Markham Stouffville Hospital. Patty’s love of life and above all, her love for her family, was so important and vital to her. She cherished time with family and friends during special events, but the highlights each year were at our cottage at Bruce Beach on the shores of Lake Huron. She enjoyed long walks on the beach, finding heart rocks and beach glass, watching the spectacular sunsets and sunrises, and cultivating the many friendships she had at Bruce Beach.

We love you Patty. We will miss your laugh and your warm smile. Your joyous optimistic spirit will live on in all of us. Your light is simply too bright to be extinguished. You will remain in our hearts forever.

The family would like to thank Dr. Baguio, Dr. James and the Palliative Care Team at Southlake Hospital for the home visits and advice offered to the family over the last couple of days of Patty’s life.

Visitation is at the Thompson Funeral Home, 530 Industrial Ave. Aurora on Tuesday, December 29th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The celebration of Patty’s life is at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2737 Bayview Ave, Toronto, on Wednesday, December 30th at 1:30p.m.

As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to Trinity Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 2737 Bayview Ave., Toronto, On. M2L 1C5 or Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation – NICU, by mail: 379 Church St. P.O. Box 1820, Markham, On.
