My Story

My name is Don Murray, and I am running for the mayor of Huron Kinloss.

I was born and raised in Huron Kinloss and I currently live at 619 Statters Lake Ave. My wife Barb and I own and operate a livestock farm as well as a small livestock trucking business. We have 4 grown children and 4 beautiful grandchildren, whom which we are very proud of.

I am running for mayor because I feel I now have the experience needed to lead this municipality. I was elected to council in 2006 and in 2018 elected to Deputy Mayor. During my years on council, I have strived to be a strong, reliable, accountable but reasonable voice at the council table. I don’t take being on a municipal council lightly, and I hope to continue to be your voice at Huron Kinloss.

During my time on Huron Kinloss council, we as a council worked hard at finding solutions to issues that faced this municipality, in a way that was in the best interest of all residence. If elected I will continue to do so.

I feel we need to work closely with developers and other stakeholders, to bring more affordable housing to Huron Kinloss, but maintain our
strong agricultural community.

With our communities expanding, with the industrial sites in Ripley being serviced and now seeing lots being purchased, the monies secured for the Lucknow water tower which will help Lucknow grow it is my hope that new companies mean new jobs and new families to help our community prosper.

Prior to council, I served as a director and chair of a mutual insurance company, a feeder finance and breeder co-op, and sat as Chair of Ontario Feeder Finance. I also sat as a director and chair of the Bruce County Cattlemen. I have volunteered for Lucknow’s Music in the Fields, Lucknow Agricultural society and more recently Roc with your Docs.

On council I have served as chair of the Lucknow Medical board, Lucknow Fireboard, Lucknow Recreation, Multi Wind, and Lucknow Strawberry Summerfest, and sat on the executive of the Community School Alliance. I have also had the experience as deputy mayor to sit at the Bruce County council table.

If elected I will continue to support doctor recruitment and support our local hospitals as much as we can. We need to continue to work beside our Provincial, and Federal members to provide more health care funding and encourage our young to enter the health care field and come back to our area to practice.

We have worked hard with our neighboring municipalities to bring Natural gas to Huron Kinloss and broadband has been expanded. I will work hard to have the entire municipality connected.

Here in Huron Kinloss, we also have a beautiful lakeshore that must be preserved and looked after. By everyone working together moving forward I feel this can be done.

With everyone doing their part I am positive that our shoreline will be preserved for many more year to come. Hopefully mother nature does her part in helping with that. As project emerge at our lakeshore, I will look at expanding roadways to allow for walking and bike lanes and parking where possible. I will continue to work with our residences to find solutions to ensure safety for all.

If elected I will continue to work with the Pine River Watershed, and any other agency that can help with the replanting of trees with loss of so many due to the Emerald Ash boar and continue with all the inland environmental projects. I will continue to advocate for the paving of concession roads.

In closing, a great municipality is measured by the quality of the lives of the people that call it home. I feel Huron Kinloss, whether you are at the lakeshore, the rolling hills of Kinloss, or anywhere in between, we have one of the most beautiful places to live in the province.
