The Lake Huron Coastal Centre is now accepting applications for the Geoff Peach Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Coastal Stewardship Technician Alyssa Bourassa says the scholarship was born out of a great legacy.

“The Geoff Peach Memorial Scholarship Fund was created to continue Geoff’s work and that of the Lake Huron Coastal Centre. He was a co-founder of the Coastal Centre and did a lot of incredible work on Lake Huron. So this was created to continue that work,” Bourassa shared.

Bourassa says two grants each year of up to fifteen hundred dollars are available to students interested in conducting research along the Lake Huron coast.

Bourassa says the grants are available to a few different people.

“It’s available to university graduates, students, masters and PHD with conservation and environment research interests. Applicable research topics include bio-diversity, coastal processes, dune conservation and water quality or plastic pollution,” Bourassa said.

Interested applicants can find information and the application form on the Lake Huron Coastal Centre web site. The deadline for applications is February 28 and the successful applicants will be chosen by mid-March.
