A donation from Enbridge Gas will go toward firefighting training materials at the Inter Township Fire Department.

The Enbridge Safe Community Project Assist program with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in the communities where Enbridge Gas operates. This year’s $250,000 donation from Enbridge Gas will be shared by 50 Ontario fire departments, including the Inter Township Fire Department, serving Georgian Bluffs and Meaford.

“Our dedicated team of firefighters rely on regular training to save lives and maintain our skills in everything from ice rescues, to confined spaces, to hazardous materials,” said Fire Chief Jeff Gautreau. “This training is essential in keeping our firefighters and community safe, and we are very grateful for this support.”

Since Safe Community Project Assist began in in 2012, a total of 294 grants have helped Ontario fire departments pay for additional firefighter training.

“Safe Community Project Assist improves access to training materials for fire departments,” said Jon Pegg, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chair of the FMPFSC. “Firefighting can be dangerous and unpredictable, and these training materials positively contribute to the health and safety of firefighters and the broader community.”
