Canadians are being advised not to eat one of Eat Smart’s packaged salads due to possible Listeria contamination.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has recalled the 156 gram packages of Salad Shake Ups – Sweet Kale, with a best before date of December 3, 2018. Anyone with this product in their refrigerator is being told to either toss it into the garbage or return it to the store where it was purchased.
Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, according to the CFIA. Symptoms of Listeria infection include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. The illness can cause death in severe cases.
So far, no one has reported getting sick from eating the recalled kale salad.
