Wellington County OPP say nearly two dozen charges were laid during a commercial vehicle safety blitz.

Police held the safety blitz aimed at commercial vehicles such as transport trucks and trailers, vans and other delivery vehicles on January 19 in Arthur. Thirty inspections were completed, which resulted in police laying 22 charges. Eleven commercial motor vehicles were taken out of service due to major defects that were found.

The OPP is reminding operators about the importance of completing accurate pre-trip inspections, of having the necessary documentation, of being aware of weight and load restrictions, and of ensuring regular maintenance and annual inspections are completed on their vehicles.

In 2022, the OPP conducted 22 commercial vehicle safety blitzes throughout the province, which resulted in 522 vehicle inspections. Thirty-five per cent of the vehicles inspected were taken out of service and a total of 335 charges were laid.
