Canadian Blood Services are calling on more new donors as supplies continue to be strained following the pandemic.

A donation event will be held in Mount Forest on Tuesday, June 6 at the Mount Forest and District Recreation Complex from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Canadian Blood Services says in a release that “the impact of the pandemic has made the need to acquire new donors even more important to ensuring patients’ needs will continue to be met.”

Grey Bruce Public Health is warning that the entire Bruce Peninsula is currently considered at “high risk” for forest fires.

The GBPH shared on its Twitter page that according to the Ontario Forest Fire Info Map, the Bruce Peninsula has a high danger rating and could experience forest fires due to extremely dry conditions and hot weather.

A local couple has left a large bequest to the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation.

The foundation is welcoming a $273,000 gift from the Estate of Ian and Peggy Moreland.

Peggy passed away in 2011, followed by Ian in 2012. The foundation said their gift will help put up to date medical technology in the hands of skilled local caregivers and improve the hospital facility.

An investigation is underway into a crash that claimed the life of an OPP officer and a school bus driver northwest of Woodstock.

Emergency crews were called to the two-vehicle collision on Highway 59 at Oxford Road 33 in East Zorra-Tavistock Township around 7 a.m. on Monday.

Oxford OPP said Monday afternoon that an unmarked cruiser and a school bus collided in the intersection, leaving both drivers dead as a result of their injuries. No students or passengers were in either vehicle.

According to Unifor, Wescast Industries has announced its intention to close its foundry operations in Wingham.

The Wescast Industries foundry, which has been a cornerstone of Wingham since 1902, primarily manufactures exhaust manifolds for major automakers such as Ford, General Motors, and Volvo.

Unifor has expressed its dismay at the decision, emphasizing the dire consequences for the dedicated workforce and the longstanding support from the community.

Owen Sound Police are warning the public of distraction thefts after a woman had her wallet stolen on Saturday.

The woman told police she had just entered her vehicle in an east side parking lot when an unknown woman got her attention by knocking on the window. The suspect told the victim that there was something wrong with her rear tire and produced a tack in her hand. While the victim was distracted a second female suspect entered the car and stole the victim’s wallet.

The Saugeen Shores Police Service (SSPS) is asking the public for help finding a 36-year-old man in order to verify his wellbeing.

Police identify the man as “Adam,” and describe him as approximately 5’7″ with a thin build, brown hair, and green eyes. An image of the missing person was provided via Twitter.

Adam is reportedly known to frequent Grey-Bruce County, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Woodstock.

Bruce County residents can take advantage of an event in Kincardine on Saturday, May 27 to drop off hazardous waste.

One of the county’s 2023 Household Hazardous Waste Days is taking place at the Kincardine Public Works Yard.

People can drop off appropriate waste items at 140 Valentine Ave. between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Residents are asked to remain in their vehicle with windows closed and waste materials placed in their open trunk for unloading.
