Suncor Energy has finalized the sale of its Adelaide Wind Farm near Strathroy.
The Calgary-based company agreed to sell its wind and solar assets to ATCO, through its investment in Canadian Utilities Limited, last October and the acquisition closed January 6.
The purchase of the 30 megawatt Adelaide wind facility was part of a much larger transaction that included assets in Alberta, totaling $713 million.
“Concurrent with the close of this acquisition, ATCO entered into a new 15-year renewable energy purchase agreement (REPA) with Microsoft Corporation,” a statement read. “Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will purchase 150 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy generated by ATCO´s newly acquired Forty Mile Wind Phase 1 Project in Alberta.”
The wind farm in Adelaide-Metcalfe has been in operation since 2015.
It was jointly owned with Aamjiwnaang First Nation and includes 18 turbines, meteorological towers, an electrical collection system, a substation and turbine access roads.
Suncor announced last April it was divesting its wind and solar assets to strengthen its focus on hydrogen and renewable fuels and accelerate its work to become a net-zero company by 2050.
