COVID-19 cases jump in Midwestern Ontario Monday

The number of COVID-19 cases jumped in Midwestern Ontario.

Huron Perth Public Health added 29 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, one in Goderich, one in North Huron, one in Central Huron, two in Howick, 19 in North Perth, two in Perth East and one Perth South. There are 70 active cases and 70 people have now died from the virus. Three residents are fighting the virus in hospital. There are outbreaks at the North Perth Spinrite Child and Family Centre, and at Elma Township Public School.

The village of Tiverton is looking good again this year. Make sure to take a drive by Tiverton Park Manor and see how it is lit up this year. Ontario on high alert due to new COVID-19 variant called Omicron

Ontario’s chief medical officer of health is urging calm after two cases of the new COVID-19 variant of concern detected in southern Africa last week were found in Ottawa this weekend.

Dr. Kieran Moore said in a  news conference Monday morning that they are isolated and being closely monitored. He added that Ontario is ready to handle whatever comes our way.

Weather advisories in effect across southern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued weather travel advisories in several counties.

London-Middlesex and Sarnia-Lambton could see snowfall between 5-10 cm.

Communities near Lake Huron may see some rain mixed with snow and are likely to accumulate less.

The weather agency warns that the lake effect flurries could last through the night.

The snowfall is expected to be quite heavy at times and could create hazardous winter driving conditions.

Grey Bruce upcoming vaccine clinics

The Grey Bruce Health Unit has released a list of vaccine clinics for the week of November 29 – December 5.

GBHU is reminding the public that children aged 5-11 and those going for a third dose must make an appointment. Individuals 12 and over going for a first or second dose may walk in.
