Hello Everyone!

We wanted to let you know about the upcoming Christmas concerts of the Paisley Concert Choir that Liz and I sing with.

The concert will be a beautiful mix of festive music which we know you would enjoy.

The concerts will be on December 5th, 6th and 7th in Hanover, Owen Sound and Paisley.  The media release printed below lists the venues and times for each concert, as well as information on the pieces we will be performing at the concerts.  Below the media release is the poster promoting our concert.

Liz and I are also singing in a quartet, which is one of several smaller group pieces being performed.

If you are interested in attending, please let one of us know, and we would be happy to provide you with tickets before hand, or we can arrange to hold tickets in your name at the door.

Hopefully you will be able to join us as we start to celebrate the Christmas season.

As nights get cooler, and days get shorter, and leaves change colour and fall to the ground, we realize that winter is not far off.  And with this new season comes the magical time of Christmas and all the promise of a New Year.

The Paisley Concert Choir has been busy preparing for this most festive season and their annual Christmas Concert Follow that Star. Concerts under the direction of Linda Finlay and accompanied by Jane Siegel, will take place Friday evening, December 5th in Hanover, Saturday afternoon, December 6th in Owen Sound, and Sunday evening, December 7th in Paisley.  The evening concerts begin at 7:30 pm and the afternoon concert starts at 2:00 pm.  Visit www.paisleyconcertchoir.com for venue details and ticket vendors near you.

Audiences will hear a mix of Christmas songs, traditional carols, spirituals, and popular songs. The program is a celebration of the coming of Christmas, the wonders of winter, the anticipation of returning home, and the joy of the human spirit.

Christmas selections include some traditional favourites: the light and lively Shepherd’s Pipe Carol by John Rutter; a swinging arrangement of the spiritual Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow; and the beautiful melody of the anthem Gesu Bambino (The Infant Jesus). The less well known piece, Who is He in Yonder Stall, with it’s gorgeous harmonies, shows off the richness and depth of sound of the choir’s tenor and bass sections. Audience members, both young and old, will be sure to enjoy the 60’s style rock number On the Roof (I Saw Santa Claus). Oh, yeah, yeah!

The Winter’s Night is a haunting musical poem that captures the beauty and stillness of winter through notes and words. Blessings of the Season, featuring words adapted from a traditional English carol, will have you fa-la-la-ing all the way home, despite the wintry weather. Try To Remember, from the musical “The Fantastics”, the longest running stage production in American history, is the story of our youth, our hearts, that reminds us of what our lives once were.

What’s better than a spiritual? Two spirituals of course. Amen, Go Tell It is an energetic gospel-style arrangement of two traditional spirituals, Amen! and Go Tell it on the Mountain, that features blues harmonies and choral call-and-response. Canadian composer Stephen Hatfield’s Jabula Jesu, based on an African folk song is a rhythmic masterpiece guaranteed to have you moving in your seat. The joy and strength of the human spirit shines through in Oscar Peterson’s Hymn to Freedom, I Hear Music in Me, and the beautiful Homeward Bound.

So come hear some glorious music and share the spirit of the season with friends, neighbours and the Paisley Concert Choir. Mark your calendars and buy your tickets for Follow that Star at participating area merchants in all three concert locations, from choir members or at the door before each concert. Tickets are $15. Children 16 years and younger are free.
