A local COVID-19 vaccination clinic has been cancelled due to the weather.
Huron Perth Public Health says they have been forced to cancel the scheduled COVID-19 vaccination clinic for February 3 at the HPPH Clinton Office located at 77722B London Road in Clinton. They say due to the ongoing snow squalls, and for the safety of staff and patients, the clinic must be rescheduled.
Anyone who had an appointment at this clinic will need to rebook. HPPH will not contact individuals to reschedule appointments.
Huron County’s Local Immigration Partnership Manager says a new program at the Alice Munro Library in Wingham has become very popular with newcomers to the town.
Mark Nonkes says the Welcome to Wingham program started in September, and it’s a great way for newcomers to the area to get to know their neighbours.
“This is particularly for immigrants, but also new residents who moved to Wingham and area during COVID or a little bit before. But it’s a way to get to know who’s in the community. There’s food and lots of chat and a great way to network and connect,” Nonkes said.
A blast of winter weather has resulted in a lengthy list of school closures and bus cancellations.
Many bus routes in rural areas are not running, and a number of local major highways remain closed. Those include:
-Highway 21 is closed from Goderich to Southampton due to poor weather
-Highway 9 is closed from Walkerton to Kincardine due to high winds, blowing snow and poor to no visibility
-Bruce Road 23 is closed from Kincardine to Bruce Road 20 due to high winds, blowing snow and poor to no visibility
A driver in Bruce County is facing charges after losing control of their vehicle while diving under the influence.
South Bruce OPP responded to the incident Wednesday night close to 11 p.m. They say a single vehicle crashed into a small brick wall at the intersection of King Street and Main Street in Tiverton.
Police say the driver was found to have been drinking alcohol. They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Intoxilizer Technician for breath tests.
The Lake Huron Coastal Centre is now accepting applications for the Geoff Peach Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Coastal Stewardship Technician Alyssa Bourassa says the scholarship was born out of a great legacy.
“The Geoff Peach Memorial Scholarship Fund was created to continue Geoff’s work and that of the Lake Huron Coastal Centre. He was a co-founder of the Coastal Centre and did a lot of incredible work on Lake Huron. So this was created to continue that work,” Bourassa shared.
Meteorologists say snow squalls may impact parts of the London area Thursday evening ahead of frigid temperatures in the forecast for Friday.
Late Thursday afternoon, Environment Canada issued a snow squall watch for several areas in southwestern Ontario, including London-Middlesex and parts of Woodstock and Oxford County.
If you plan to attend this meeting then please RSVP so we can better prepare.

Just a short note to bring your attention to a concern I have with the current state of the Bruce Beach Municipal Drain project. My concern is with the quality of the water that is going into the Lake and I've included some photos.

FOR well over forty years the Summer Resort known as Bruce Beach on Lake Huron’s friendly shore has been the holiday rendezvous for health-seekers, pleasure-seekers and tor those who were just tired. From a very modest beginning the popularity and the population have grown by leaps and bounds. The need of having some sort of historical souvenir which would preserve the happy annals of the Beach had been keenly felt for a long time. It was not, however, until the year 1915 that the meeting of this need took concrete form.
Shortly after the Bruce Beach Historical Society was formed in the Fall of 1981, I was having lunch with a friend. When asked why I had given up curling that year, one of the two or three reasons I mentioned was my interest in publishing history of Bruce Beach, where my family had been spending their summers for more than sixty years. "How fortunate you are to have such roots", replied my friend.
