Mayor Mark Goetz and his councillors must be breathing a sigh of relief, but under their breath are grinning from ear to ear. Why? The Municipality of South Bruce voted “yes” by only a 2.4 per cent margin indicating South Bruce is “willing” to carry on with the DGR (deep geological repository). The 69 per cent voter turnout meant that the council did not have to make the decision. The mayor’s comment following the referendum results, “I wasn’t expecting it to be that close,” should wake up the council to really think. But will they? Read More

The contributions of Afro Caribbean youth living in Grey and Bruce counties took centre stage at the second Afro Caribbean Youth Awards held at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine on Oct. 26.
The event featured several speakers, including multidisciplinary artist and arts educator Phillip Saunders. Saunders, the creator of the Afrocentric mural at the Davidson Centre, gave an interactive lesson on creating an art installation during his talk.

An international collaboration between Bruce Power, Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON), Isogen (a Kinectrics and Framatome company), and ITM Isotope Technologies Munich SE (ITM) began commercial production of lutetium-177 Oct. 17 on a second production line of the Isotope Production System (IPS) on Bruce Power’s Unit 7, effectively doubling the production capabilities for the cancer-fighting isotope.
