Virginia Beach - Diane Elizabeth (Zimmerman) Hinz died February 13, 2016 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital after an extended hospitalization.

Diane was a longtime resident of Virginia Beach, VA. Born March 28, 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of Rex Martin and Bette Arlene Zimmerman. Diane attended Charles W. Woodward High School in Rockville, MD, graduating with the class of 1971. She attended Elon College in Elon, NC where she received a degree in Physical Education in 1975.

Diane married Thomas (Ted) Turner II in 1975 and the couple welcomed a son, Thomas (Tom) Turner III in 1978. Diane spent many years working with her parents at Yarn Haven, a popular yarn, knitting and needlecraft store on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach. She also worked as a caregiver and a pharmacy technician and was the primary caregiver for her father, Rex, until his death in December 2015.

Diane enjoyed reading, animals, especially her dog, Layla, knitting and jigsaw puzzles. She loved television and was an avid fan of General Hospital.

Diane is survived by her son Thomas Turner III, her ex-husband, Thomas Turner II, her sister Laura (Steve) Greer of Gaithersburg, MD and her brother, Thomas (Connie) Zimmerman of Dover, NH; her nieces, Ashley Greer Willis (Will Willis) and Stephanie Morgan Greer (Adam Cath).

Arrangements are being handled by Family Choice Funerals and Cremations, 5401 Indian River Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23464 (757-366-9260).

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Virginia Animal Rescue at animal.rescueme.org/Virginia in Diane's memory.

A joint celebration of the lives of Diane and her father Rex will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1489 Laskin Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23451, (757) 428-4052, on April 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm.
