Heather Jean Ingham (nee Liddell), age 86, died peacefully November 25th at Ian Anderson House hospice in Oakville after fighting hard for several years against multiple cancers. She was born January 6th, 1937 in Tianjin (Tientsin), China. Middle daughter of Olympic champion Eric Liddell of Scotland and Florence Liddell (nee MacKenzie) of Canada, both of China based missionary families.
Raised in China until the age of four, Heather, her pregnant mother and elder sister were sent to Canada in 1941. Her father remained in China; he died unfortunately in February 1945. The family of four lived in Toronto until her mother remarried and they moved to Binbrook, Ontario where she completed high school. A lover of dancing, her team won the North American Square Dancing Championship at The Royal Winter Fair in 1954.
Heather graduated from the Victoria Hospital Nursing program in London, Ontario in 1958. Her nursing career was very important; she always advocated for independence and enjoyed her time working. She worked at the Victoria Hospital (London, Ontario), The Queensway General Hospital (Etobicoke), York University Health Services (North York) and Canadian Blood Services (Canadian Red Cross).
She married Gerald (Jerry) Ingham of London, Ontario during a blizzard November 29th, 1958. They had four children: Jamie (Christi), Leslie (Peter Bennell), Julie Moffat (Bob) and Chris (Cathy), raised in North York, Ontario.
Summers were spent at Bruce Beach, a little piece of “Heaven on Earth”. After retirement (2001), she spent six months each between Bruce Beach and their Oakville condo.
Heather is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Jerry; her four children; her eight grandchildren (Valerie, Rosie, Natalie, Stephen, Adrienne, Sienna, Fiona, Rayne) and her three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Patricia Russell (Mervyn), Maureen Moore and Jeannie Montgomery (Ian).
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Heather will be missed deeply.
In lieu of flowers, Heather requests donations be given to your choice of the following: Ian Anderson House (Oakville), South Bruce Grey Heath Centre (Kincardine), and the Canadian Red Cross.
Thanks to Dr. Jane Aldridge and all the wonderful, caring staff at Acclaim Health and Ian Anderson House, you all made this final journey less difficult for both Heather and her family.
