It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of James Paul West of Lambton County on Monday, January 6, 2020 at Bluewater Health in his 75th year. Paul leaves behind his dear friend and wife Heather of over 30 years; daughter Sarah (Matt) Frew; and grandchildren Alanna, Bradley and Caitlyn Frew, and Evin, Niamh and Avery Ellwood.
He is predeceased by his son Graham, parents Marion and Reverend James West and his sister Marion Keith (Dan) Young. He is missed by his brother David (Sharon) West, his sister Anne (Paul) Pennock and their children. Also missed by sister-in-law Maureen (Eric) Keller and their children Erin and Griffin Keller. A special thanks to nephew John & Cathy Young for their dedication to Paul and unfailing support.
Paul received his Masters in Education, and was a teacher at the Lambton County School Board for 34 years, retiring in 1999. Elementary school and 'hands on' teaching was his enjoyment. After retiring, he went on to work for H&R Block, both in tax preparation and course instruction. Paul enjoyed travelling, especially to Hawaii and Arizona, and listening to Elvis. He played in a local two-pitch league into his senior years, and was a loyal Blue Jays fan, travelling many times to Toronto to watch his team.
Paul's greatest love was spending time at the family cottage at Bruce Beach in Kincardine. He could always be seen cutting the grass! Over time Paul and Heather had their own 'escapes' where he spent many days helping Heather with various gardening projects. He had an enduring relationship with his cars and loved his Mustangs!
Paul was a longtime member of London Road West United Church, where he served as Treasurer for several years.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mousseau and the staff of the Cognitive Care floor at Bluewater Health, for their compassion and care over these last few months. Many thanks to all of the family and friends who visited Paul regularly, keeping him up on current events, and the support provided to Heather.
A celebration of Paul's life will be held at SMITH FAMILY CENTRE (in front of the funeral home), 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Sunday, January 12, 2020 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. with words of tribute being held at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the VON and Bluewater Health Foundation would be appreciated (cheques only at the funeral home please).
