Wiarton Willie, South Bruce Peninsula’s weather prognosticating groundhog, emerged from his den this morning to tell us how much longer winter will last.

Willie says we will get an early spring.

Prediction Morning kicked off with fireworks in Bluewater Park.

Following that, there were activities planned in the Wiarton Arena parking lot following the big prediction.

As a Platinum sponsor of the Wiarton Willie 2023 Festival, Bruce Power joined in the festivities.

“I’m excited to once again attend the festival in person and to be a part of the Shadow Cabinet for Prediction Morning,” said President and CEO Mike Rencheck. “Bruce Power is a long-time sponsor of this renowned event that brings some fun to our area and builds on our sense of community.”

Bruce Power is also be holding a social media photo contest during the festivities. Find the Bruce Power ice sculpture on Wiarton’s waterfront and take a photo and upload it to your Instagram using the hashtags #WiartonWillie and #groundhogday.

To be eligible for the grand prize of a GoPro 8, you must also tag Bruce Power on Instagram @brucepowerngs. Entries must be received by Tuesday, Feb. 7, and the winner will be contacted through Instagram.

“We would like to thank Bruce Power for its continued support of the Wiarton Willie Festival,” said Garry Michi, Mayor of the Town of South Bruce Peninsula. “This event is important to our vibrant community and it attracts people from all around to our beautiful area.”
