YMCA Child Care – Ripley officially reopened on Sept. 4 following extensive renovations.
“We are incredibly excited about our refreshed space and the opportunity to provide even more quality child care for our community,” said Cyndy Jefferson, director of child care at the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce. “Our new environment is designed to support young learners in growing, building friendships, and creating lasting memories.”
The new floor plan of the updated centre created more spacious rooms allowing for an increased capacity, with the new facility licensed to accommodate 15 toddlers and 24 preschoolers compared to the previous 10 toddlers and 16 preschoolers.
The childcare centre renovations were part of a broader redevelopment initiative for the Ripley Medical Centre located within the same building, a project announced in March of this year, which is still underway.
The project is a collaborative effort involving the Township of Huron-Kinloss, Kincardine Family Health Team, Dr. Murray, YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce, County of Bruce, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) and Province of Ontario.
Although staff are happy to be back in the renovated space, Jefferson said the centre continues to face staffing shortages and urgently needs aditional staff in order to address its extensive waitlist.
