Robert Rohloff 159 Bruce Beach Rd. Brother-in-law to George and Shirley Sled

Robert John Rohloff November 4, 1930 - December 24, 2017 The oldest of the four children born to John and Evelyn Rohloff (Lyn, Carol and Gregg) and the last of them to pass away, Bob was a source of strength to his parents, his siblings, his spouses and friends, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, those who worked with him over his long career in the oil business and for those who knew him as a skier, a photographer, a dog lover, a woodworker, a builder of model airplanes, a geologist and - through many years - as a sailor and explorer.

Born in Calgary, Alberta (Canada), Bob developed two life-long hobbies - photography and adventure. He even built his own dark rooms, made his own skis, and constructed a 25-foot sailboat in a garage in Edmonton! He was a champion downhill racer, earned awards at the Calgary Stampede for his photographs and sailed around much of the world. He skied so much he found himself kicked out of high school and working at Mobil in Alberta. One of the scientists there told him to finish high school, so he did. Then he worked a one-year-on and one-year off schedule at UBC, earning a degree in geology - even riding horseback to examine rigs - and finally was hired by Mobil as a "real scientist." He worked for Mobil for his entire career and enjoyed stints in Calgary, Regina, Los Angeles, Anchorage, Dallas, London, New York and Virginia. He ended up as VP for Mobil's International Exploration Division. Understanding that education meant empowerment, he helped his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and others to attend university and graduate school.

Bob also believed that travel educated people and he included friends and family on his various boating adventures to Europe, Asia, South and Central America and all around North America. Bob loved well too. In 1956 he married Shirley Perkinson (deceased 1992) and they had two daughters, Jo-Anne (Rolf Woolner) and Lori (Leon Peek). He married Catherine Sled in 1972 (deceased 2001) and Michael was born. Kathy and Mike especially shared Bob's love of sailing and adventuring, and they took the Chinook (sail), and Silverheels I and II - the latter a 75-foot custom built yacht and Bob's pride and joy - everywhere they could! After Kathy's death he met another companion, Gloria Knudson, who shared his life and travels.

Thanks to Mike, Ralph Bourgeois and Captain Rick Copeland for making this possible for Bob for the past 15 years!

A family service will be held in Ontario, Canada in the summer.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Treasure Coast (Stuart, Florida) Hospice.
