There are many ways that the present council has spent our tax dollars, that in his mind, are not appropriate.
  • The 2022 budget calls for the spending of over $3 million on roads maintenance. This figure is difficult to challenge, however, when this amount is coupled with the new capital spending on roads it seems excessive. Capital spending on roads this year will amount to over $4.5 million. In 2021 council spent over $3million on roads construction. That means a 50% increase in spending on roads over one year. The 2022 budget of $3million on roads maintenance plus the 4.5million on roadscapital expenditure represents ALMOST ONE THIRD OF THE TOTAL BUDGET FOR 2022! There must be something more important than our roads.
  • Did you know that you are now a developer? Well as a taxpayer in H-K you are. Council is spending just under $2.5 million on creating an Industrial Park in Ripley. When complete, the Township hopes to sell the lots to interested companies. Then collect taxes from the companies after they have built buildings appropriate to their profession. When was the last time that a company purchased property in Ripley to set up its business? Should the council be risking your tax dollars in hopes of attracting 20 new businesses to Ripley?
  • Huron-Kinloss Council needs to control spending especially with inflation on a steep curve upwards. Our next Council needs to be fiscally responsible, so the residents aren’t burdened with higher taxes when the cost of living is moving upwards.
  • We need better access to our beaches for everyone. However, making Boiler Beach Road a one-way street is not the answer.
Please take the time to vote this year. Your vote could make a big difference to the environment, how your tax dollars are spent, and where your tax dollars are spent. When voting remember you may vote for up to 5 councillors. However, you may choose to vote for only one or two, or three.
